Stop "Feeding" Your Emotions

Hypnosis is the solution for many problems. Many overweight people have turned to hypnosis for help. Losing weight with hypnosis is easy. Hypnosis weight loss clients may quickly find themselves craving healthier foods and enjoying them more than they ever have enjoyed healthy food. They often report eating and enjoying foods they never even thought they would eat. The change can be amazing. Hypnosis weight loss clients generally feel less deprived and more in control of their eating than they did on other weight loss programs.

People with unresolved weight problems will often realize that they have been trying to "feed" their emotions. This is one of the reasons we have weight problems. We "eat" our emotions. When we do this we "feed" a whole range of other emotions. That only causes more problems. When we gain weight, our self- esteem suffers; our self-confidence and other feelings about ourselves are affected. Food does not satisfy emotional eating; it only causes more negative feelings such as guilt and stress from weight-gain. When we use food as a crutch for emotion we take in more calories than we need. The emotion does not change, but weight often does, with added pounds.

People are creatures of habit. We fall back on the patterns that we have learned throughout our lives, especially the habits we learned in childhood. Sometimes we keep childhood patterns for a lifetime. We may realize that we learned the wrong patterns and try to change them but we often fail. We can easily learn new things and develop new patterns of behavior using hypnosis. The key to this is changing our subconscious mind. If we do not change our subconscious mind we will quickly find ourselves falling right back into negative patterns of behavior in stressful times. Our subconscious mind controls everything we do. When we change our subconscious mind we change negative behaviors for good.

This is where hypnosis can help. Retraining the subconscious mind is a very simple process. Using relaxation and imagination, hypnosis clients are able to change their negative behaviors into positive behaviors. They can then benefit from these positive behaviors quickly. There are no pills to buy and take, there are no expensive diet foods to buy and no weight gain when you stop eating "their" food. The only cost of hypnosis is the cost of the program you choose and any reinforcing materials you buy. It really is a permanent lifestyle change anyone can live with.

How To Boost Your Brainpower

The brain is more powerful than any computer. We use less than 10% of our capacity which is why someone once said that the graveyard is the richest place - in it lie all the people who had great potential they never really realised. Here are some tips to boost your brainpower:

1) FOOD FOR THOUGHT

A rather picky eater, the brain demands about 60g of glucose every hour. Primarily obtained from recently eaten carbohydrates only in extreme instances of deprivation will the brain use other substances for fuel. For ideal brain function you need to make sure a constant supply of energy to the brain by eating small but more frequent nutritious meals. According to a study by University of Wisconsin, the brain may actually react to excess food as if it were poison! The resulting immune response may cause cognitive deficits.

TIP# Avoid sodas, fizzy drinks and junk foods. Foods that release glucose slowly (eg. Fruits, vegetables & whole grains) give a steady supply of glucose to the brain. Think berries and oily fish these are high in anti-oxidants, walnuts and flax-seeds these are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, both crucial for brain health. Fish also have iodine, which improves mental clarity.

2) SUPPLEMENTS

A lot of us often neglect our diet, leading to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. B vitamins play the role of brain chemicals formation such as dopamine, epinephrine, myelin and serotonin each of which plays a role in keeping your brain alert and healthy. Dopamine and serotonin help improve your mood.

Magnesium protects the brain from neurotoxins.Vitamin C and E are crucial anti-oxidants that can intercept free radicals before they affect the brain. An important supplement to consider is ganoderma lucidum, a mushroom extract which has a plethora of health benefits including speeding up metabolism, acting as anti-oxidant, enhancing the immune system and improving brain function.

TIP# Consult your doctor before taking any supplements as some may interfere with absorption of medication you might be taking.

3) PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Fact: Exercise helps boost blood flow to the brain, which in turn helps support the efficient working of neurons and regeneration of new ones. Regular exercise increases the size of the hippocampus (yes hippocampus - the part of the brain which plays an important role in learning and memory). All this translates into improved memory, concentration, body-mind co-ordination and lowered risk of degenerative brain diseases.

TIP# Hit the gym, or try 50 minutes of brisk walking three times a week.

4) MENTAL EXERCISE

We a living in a world with a plethora of gadgets to help us with the simplest and most complex of mental tasks, making our brains lazy. The brain slows down because it is not exercised as often as it could be.

TIP# Challege your brain by using your left hand if you normally use your right, multi-tasking, juggling and playing strategy games. Even keeping up with political shenanigans can boost your brainpower!

5) GIVE IT A REST

The brain can do it's reviewing faster when you are asleep than when you are awake.

TIP# Get 7 hours of sleep daily ( a luxury to most of us). Consider taking a nap during the day. A nap can help solidify long-term memories, such as events or skills you are trying to master. Slow down on alcohol have at least three alcohol-free nights a week.

Keep taking your multivitamin supplements to ensure that your body is getting all the nutrients it requires. If your mood needs an extra boost, try Pure Matters® Enliven with 5-HTP, which supports relaxation, concentration, and a positive mood target.

The Dream Incubation Experiment

My purpose in researching, writing about and investigating dreams is to help you to become aware of and appreciate the power of your dreams, and to provide you with information on how to use those dreams in a variety of useful ways. I want to inspire you to move from perhaps being an unconscious dreamer to where you're using your dreams for intentional foresight that will lead to personal, psychological and spiritual growth and evolution.

The solution to perplexing and sometimes frustrating problems, as well as everyday solutions to mundane issues, can reliably be resolved in the dreaming mind. Historical records bear witness to humanity's attempts to seek (and receive) guidance, wisdom and solutions through their dreams.

The ancient Sumerians, Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese, Indigenous cultures, and many, many more have dedicated sacred sites, writings and resources to the study and incubation of healing, problem solving, creative and guidance dreams. Even in modern times, dreams have helped solve problems in science, politics, literature, religion and almost every other industry, segment or part of society, as well as with everyday concerns such as health, finance, relationships and so forth.

Inventions as varied as Elias Howe's sewing machine needle-where he dreamt the solution to the problem with the needle to be the placement of the hole at the pointed end-- and J. B. Parkinson's computer-controlled antiaircraft gun, were conceived in dreams. Scholar Herman Hilprecht reported that he dreamt that an Assyrian priest revealed the accurate translation of the stone of Nebuchadnezzar.

Problem Solving

The most common use of dream incubation is to request a solution to a current or continuing problem in your work or home life. These may be along the lines of whether to ask for a raise or make a career change; whether to have a baby or marry your current beau; If now is the right time to take the plunge and buy that little house, or move to another part of the country.

Several research studies have examined different aspects of problem solving and dreams. Wile, in 1934, addressed the incubation issue when he measured how long it took children to self-induce a dream on a desired topic. In 1974, Dement tested 500 undergraduate students by giving them three "brain-teaser" problems to solve while they slept. Morton Schatzman, in the 1980s repeated the Dement experiment, giving brain-teasers to huge numbers of people in England via the mass media.

Dr. Deirdre Barrett, of the Harvard Medical School, Behavioral Medicine Program, conducted a study of dream incubation for problem solving. However, unlike the researchers before her, she explored how subjects would do if they could solve problems of their own choice, rather than predetermined puzzles or problems.

One of the more interesting results of the Barrett study revealed that a solution was usually arrived at by the start of the dream. It didn't appear that the problem was being struggled with throughout the experience. However, in some instances, the solution was presented through subtle hints which built toward more obvious ones until the conscious mind finally "got the message."

Inventive and Scientific Solutions

Inventors, by nature are dreamers; sometimes in a very literal sense. Nikola Tesla, famous inventor of the high-voltage transformer (Tesla coil), for example, often perceived his inventions in dreams and in dream-like mental visions. Tesla reported that he "saw" his inventions as if they were real on the screen of his mind's eye. He claimed that the power of his imagery was such that he could do "experiments in his mind."

Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz was the great chemist who revolutionized the study of chemistry with the discovery of the Benzene molecule. In a dream he was shown an image of a snake biting its own tail and realized that the molecule was a "closed chain."

In 1922, Niels Bohr received the Nobel Prize in physics due to a dream that enlightened him. He was trying to figure out what the structure of an atom was. One evening he fell asleep and in his dreams he saw the nucleus of the atom, with the electrons spinning around it, just like our solar system with the sun and planets. He knew immediately that this was the solution to his problem. Further testing and experiments proved it to be true.

Creative Solutions

Dreams can provide creative insights and solutions as well as practical and mundane ones.

Mary Shelley, who in the company of her famous husband Percy Shelley, Lord Byron, and others had been reading aloud a collection of ghost stories, became part of a plan, suggested by Lord Byron, that they all write ghost stories of their own.

According to Mary Shelley's journal of April 1817, after listening to a long conversation between Byron and Shelley on the speculation that, "Perhaps a corpse would be reanimated," she retired to her bed well where, stimulated by the evening's conversation, was unable to sleep. When finally she did fall into blissful slumber her "imagination, unbidden, possessed and guided me, gifting the successive images that arose in my mind with a vividness far beyond the usual bounds of reverie," she wrote, and thus Frankenstein was born.

Robert Louis Stevenson was influenced by his dreams. He wrote an essay in which he called his dream helpers "the Brownies. Whenever he was stuck for a character, plot or story he'd make a request of his "Brownies" and in the morning he'd have what he needed.

Edgar Allen Poe's personal favourite work was The Lady Ligeia. He was particularly captivated by her eyes, which had met his in a dream. Her eyes were "far larger than the ordinary eyes of our race. They were even fuller than the fullest of the gazelle eyes of the tribe of the valley of the Nourjahad."

Healing Solutions

Like Edgar Cayce, though perhaps not to the same degree, we can all request health related information, advice and even diagnoses. In 2004, I was suffering with terrible headaches daily. I had visited the doctor but, after a cursory examination, he informed me that there was "nothing wrong." Frustrated with his evaluation and flippant attitude, I decided to diagnose the problem myself... with the help of my dreaming mind. The dream I received that night told me that my diet and my anger with a situation in my life at that time were the cause. A change in eating habits and attitude alleviated the headaches.

The Power Of The Mind

Anyone who's experienced a creative breakthrough or insight through their dreams knows that the dreaming mind has a power we don't experience while awake. This power is unfettered by time, space, or self-imposed limitations. It reaches into the endless, boundless and eternal universe of unmanifest potential, where unlimited ideas, inspirations and imaginings lay in wait.

When you incubate or request, a resolution, solution or guidance dream, your sub/unconscious and superconscious mind work in unison to bring you the best solution for you at the present time. In some instances you may have been thinking about a particularly troubling problem for days, weeks or even months, but hadn't been able to resolve the issue. Then, out of the blue, you have a dream that makes everything crystal clear. At other times, you might not have consciously been focused on any particular problem, but you have a dream that provides you with a big "fix" for your life in general. It may be that the issue was smouldering in the back of your mind for quite a while and your dreaming mind finally brought it to the forefront for you to deal with.

Incubation Method

There are tons of resources on how to incubate or request a specific dream. What I'm sharing here is my own personal method. Feel free to adjust it to your liking.

The most important part of dream incubation is setting an intention. The more clearly your intention is articulated, thought or written, the more likely it is that you'll dream the answer to your question, problem or issue.

Clearly define the issue in your conscious mind first. What do you want your dreams to work on? Are you seeking the answer to a technical question or a career decision? Are you inquiring into a health or physical concern? Are you debating a relationship issue? By clearly understanding the problem or concern, you'll better understand the solution given.

If you usually keep a dream journal, write out your question or query on a new page. If you don't have a dream journal, any piece of paper will do. If you can draw an image, add a photograph, sketch the problem, add the additional information.

Once you settle into bed for the night, start thinking about the issue you want your dreams to work on. Repeat the question or statement you wrote out, over and over while you drift off to sleep.

That's all there is to it. You may not get an answer, solution or response the first time you try dream incubation. If this is the case, don't be disheartened. If you keep with it, you will get the answers you need. The most common reason new dreamworkers feel that their efforts yield no results is that they don't recognize that the dream or dreams they receive relate to the problem at hand (or each other). However, what I've found is that once I begin investigating the dream story, I'm surprised to discover how much they do in fact relate to my concerns and that they do indeed offer practical and sound solutions.

Like any new skill, dream incubation takes a little bit of practice and some patients. Once you begin using your dreams to explore and resolve issues, problems and concerns, you'll discover how invaluable the information they offer really is and you'll wonder why you didn't start requesting guidance sooner.

The Experiment

The point of this entire article is to provide the background and reason for an experiment I'm conducting, and to invite you to take part in the research. From October 31, 2012 to December 31, 2012 I'll be requesting information from my dreams on a variety of topics. I will also be attempting to incubate information for others as well.

Every day (or once I receive an answer/response to a dream query) I'll post the pre-dream request or question on the blog at: http://terrygillisdreamanalyst.ca/blog/. I'll then post the dream I receive. If you would like to participate, either by incubating your own questions/queries or by requesting that I incubate an issue for you, post your question or incubation and dream on the blog.

At the end of the eight weeks, I'll write up a report and article on the experiment and our results.

Terry Gillis is a dream investigator, researcher and author and would like to invite you to participate in her ongoing research and become a part of the growing dream community by posting your dreams on her blog.

Benefits of Relaxation to Your Fitness

Many people imagine taking a vacation, watching TV, or hanging out with friends when relaxing instead of using a few simple relaxation techniques that can have a large increase in the general fitness of an individual. People attending a fitness resort often feel large benefits when they take part in relaxing exercise programs, such as yoga and meditation; other relaxing activities, such as spending time in a sauna can replicate the activities of exercise in the individual.

Relaxation is the process of relieving the stresses of both the mind and the body; in terms of both mind and body a professionally administered massage at a weight loss camp can help increase the general health of people. Relaxation techniques can be used to decrease the heart rate of individuals and lower blood pressure; during a fitness resort stay relaxation techniques are often taught to residents in an attempt to increase their all round health. Completion of exercise and relaxation techniques, such as the ancient oriental art of Tai Chi can have a great effect on the body by helping to increase oxygen levels, which in turn increases energy levels. The removal of stress and negativity from both the mind and body is often taught at a weight loss camp in an attempt to boost energy levels and general health.

The benefits of a relaxing activity, such as spending a short time in a sauna or swimming in a warm pool are two fold. These activities, which are often part of a weight loss camp at a fitness resort widen the blood vessels through the application of heat to the body and allow a greater supply of blood to flow through the body. This can be of great help to people in their everyday lives and when attending a fitness camp as increased blood flow combined with sweating heavily can replicate a exercise activity such as a fast walk.

It is important to remember these things as you workout because stress affects the mind and the body. You have to learn to detox your mind and liberate yourself. Also, your muscles need time to heal and recover from your workouts. Hot baths and saunas are therapeutic in muscle recovery and you will feel ready for the next workout. By attending a fitness camp you will have these relaxation techniques integrated into your workout routines throughout the week, and they will teach you how to take it home to continue your fitness journey.

Honor and Respect All Living Creatures

To be conscious is to be aware and respectful towards all living creatures, big and small. They make up our world and are part of it. Treating animals humanly is a conscious trait. Being aware of where our food comes from and how an animal is treated is essential. Many people now want to know this. It is our duty as conscious human beings to treat all creatures with respect and dignity.

If you eat animal products, it is good to be aware that you are either eating a creature that was once alive or are eating a product of their current life. Either way you are taking from this creature to nourish yourself.

Acknowledging this life and knowing that the animal has or had a decent life is part of conscious living. We can take small steps, but it is important to take steps towards honoring all living creatures. When we are cruel to animals, we are cruel to ourselves. It is a reflection of our society and our values. When we raise animals with cruelty we absorb this hateful and painful energy. What goes around comes around. That is how energy works. When an animal is treated humanely and with compassion, this reflects in many positive ways. Honor and respect the food that is given to us by these creatures.

Animal companions are an important part of many of our lives. They give us love and loyalty. Treat them with humanity. Give them proper food, water, shelter and exercise. They need love also.

Remember our wild creatures also. They are part of our magnificent Earth. And they are part of our overall survival. Honor them and their habitat. Help them survive. Support their lives by practicing conscious economics, by walking softly, and by honoring the earth.

How do we honor all living creatures?

1) Treat all creatures with respect and dignity.

2) Practice "conscious economics" by purchasing humane/cruelty free and sustainable animal products.

3) Learn where your food comes from. Buy local, free range and organic whenever possible.

4) Speak out for all living creatures. Educate people about these issues.

5) Connect with the animal kingdom whenever possible. Interact with other species to gain empathy and awareness.

6) Walk softly and be aware of your impact on other creatures and their habitat.

When we become aware of our impact on our earth and its creatures we can take conscious steps towards honoring and respecting them. I call this way of life "conscious living". By being aware of our actions and how they affect others we take a positive step towards living a more compassionate and fulfilling life. Small steps are important in our daily lives. By taking these steps we are helping change ourselves and the world around us in a positive way.

How the Mind Controls Pain

Pain is the most common reason for physician visits in the United States. It is a physically uncomfortable feeling that is caused by an illness or an action. It serves as a "warning symptom" that motivates people to draw away from damaging situations or limit body parts from moving while it heals. However, pain can also be caused even after the stimulus is removed, or even without any stimulus at all. This pain can be caused by an internal condition and can be recurrent, which is known as chronic pain.

While pain is helpful, in a way, it can greatly reduce one's quality of life - especially when pain is long-standing or recurring. Chronic pain, like that of the head (migraines), back, neck and other areas of the body are often

Pain and The Mind

Modern science is slowly investigating the support of mind-body therapies like meditation and biofeedback in pain control, following the idea that the mind may have power over the body. But how does the mind respond to and control pain?

What Researches Show

Pain is tied to brain function that also governs one's behavior. The perception of pain greatly varies from one person to the other - not just due to the severity of one's injury - but also due to other psychological factors. These factors involve previous pain experience, anxiety, stress levels, heredity, fear, depression and general health. Motivation also plays a role in pain perception. Depressed individuals may feel incapacitated by a minor injury, while many wounded soldiers ignore their own pain to save other soldiers during a battle.

One study done in Stanford University studied how imagery could control pain. The results show that specific images, such as that of flames could increase the pain. Flowing water, on the other hand helped reduce symptoms of pain.

The same study also revealed that empowerment helped control painful symptoms. The fact that patients could see their pain through imaging, helped them realize that they could control it.

Another study in the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf focused on thinking, and how it could affect pain. Twenty volunteers were given tests - an easier one-back test and a trickier n-back test. While taking the test, the participants received a burning sensation on their forearms. The heating element that was used could reach around 47 degrees Celsius, which was enough to produce a burning sensation but not enough to burn, the skin. It was revealed that participants who took the more difficult n-back test felt less burning and less pain than their counterparts who took the easier test.

What You Can Do Now
Today, more and more studies are being done about pain control techniques with the use of the mind. However, one thing is known and understood by many researchers and scientists our there - pain is exacerbated by tension. This means that if you can control tension in your mind, you can help reduce painful sensations - or even alleviate them. There are mind-body control techniques that have already been proven to work. These include deep breathing, acupuncture, use of imagery, yoga, Pilates, meditation and other relaxation techniques.

Residual Effects of Guillain Barre

Prior to suffering Guillain Barre (July 1995) I was a very fit male in my late 30's. I competed regularly in triathlons and we all know the type of training required for the three disciplines of that sport. I was also an avid trekker through various terrains. I was (still am) a Dad to two young boys and a husband to one wife (still am). I only give that brief physical and family background because Guillain Barre stopped me dead in my tracks. After discovering what Guillain Barre was I quickly re-focused my life to do all that I could to fully recover. Even though I now work full-time and have done so for a quite a while the residual effects of Guillain Barre remain with me. The medical fraternity call them 'residual neurological abnormalities'.

What are my residual effects and how do they impact on my life? These may be the same for you or a love one.

Pain. Not disabling pain but persistent discomfort in my feet. Sometimes it is like a tingling but most times it is an ache and even those descriptions are not altogether apt. I massage deeply and even smash my feet down on the floor or on the edges of coffee tables so as to 'distribute' or rid myself of the sensation, usually to no effect. The pain tends to be worse at night and is definitely worse if I have been on my feet all day or my feet have been wrapped tightly in working boots. As a teacher and as a husband-father this is usually the case. I do not take any medication.

My feet are 'floppy'. The ankles are weak. The toes flop or don't obey what I ask them to do. I have heaps of muscle twitching. I enjoy watching those. Very funny. I do fall occasionally particularly if I happen to walk backwards. I have to be aware of my walking, my 'feet planting' with each step, even though it's not done consciously. Since GBS I haven't been able to run at all. My calf muscles are very loose as some of the nerves, so I am told, have died or not regenerated. The term from doctors is axonal degeneration. My doctor has mentioned to me that axons send out small branches called collateral sprouts that restore the nerve supply to those muscle fibers whose nerves have been damaged. What I have found is that my muscles must work extremely hard to maintain efficiency over a long period of time. For example I still trek but with two walking poles to aid with balance and support. The legs fatigue to a much faster extent compared to prior Guillain Barre times. For me, it is a long term disability, I hate that word, but not one that I let stop me doing my outdoor pursuits. There is always a way. I have always loved the mental challenges that invariably go with the physical ones.

I have found that from a few months ago (August 2012) I have developed a limp which has originated in the left hip. It is not painful but as I had been affected by GBS from the neck down for a long period of time I have now been told by my doctor that even though the muscles in the hip area had recovered that now they have weakened due to Guillain Barre from those many years ago.

5 Super Simple Ways to Increase Your Energy

"Learn How to Luxuriate in the Simplicity." -Wayne Dyer

There were very specific times in my life when I would hit a wall at 3:00 and my energy was drained. There were also some very specific things happening at this time in my life that I can see very clearly were the causes of my energy walls.

There are some very easy tweaks you can make in your day so that you don't hit the wall at some point. You CAN feel vibrant and full of energy each and everyday. And the best part.. and I know this might be a shock to you all.. the way in which we increase energy is not what you may think.

Learn the 5 Super Simple Ways to Increase Your Energy:

Operate with Passion: The biggest reason I was hitting a wall at 3:00 is because I was no longer passionate for what I was doing with my work. I knew I wanted to step up and I was afraid to take that step. So everyday I was going through the motions wishing it was different. Your body can sense this feeling of lack of enthusiasm. It's basically choosing sleep over life. If you aren't living a vibrant life... might as well go to sleep! What do you need the energy for?
Find your Purpose: We were all put here on the planet for a reason. We all have a purpose and a mission from spirit. If you are not living your purpose or don't know what it is, your energy will diminish until you connect to it. Once again, why do you need to last all day if you aren't even living out your purpose for coming into this life? Your body is asking you to change and as soon as you begin operating from this space you will be surged with energy and you won't want to stop. Therefore, you will be supported in that energetically.
Create Your Own Beliefs: One of the most draining things is living out of someone else's belief systems. You are unique, and you have a unique path in your life. It doesn't matter if your mother believes what you are doing is impossible or your sibling believes it's stupid. You must operate from your own empowering beliefs that bring you closer to where you want to go. Napoleon Hill said that the only beliefs or thoughts you should keep are the ones that align with your desires, all the other ones got to go!
Enjoy the Dining Experience: Take a time out for meals and be present with your meal times. Enjoy the food, taste the herbs and spices, sit down and breathe with your food. This is a nourishing experience, you are taking care of yourself when you put food into your body so give yourself time in these moments.
Check In and Get Quiet: Throughout the day ask yourself how you are feeling or what you want to do. Sometimes when I check in I notice that I might need a nap, or maybe I am thirsty. Perhaps my body is asking for a break or a walk. If you never slow down and get quiet you will miss the signals from your body and therefore your body has no choice but to go to an extreme wall to get you to stop. Always check in the way you would with a newborn baby, you are worth it.

How to Find Solace in the Grieving Process

Each of us grieves in our own way, but all of us can find comfort and consolation by looking past the circumstances surrounding the deaths of our loved ones and by focusing, instead, on when they were at their very best.

The loss of a loved can be a very isolating experience. When we're grieving, there is a natural tendency to withdraw into ourselves and to feel as though we are all alone.

Well-meaning friends will come to our aid, pray for us and console us for a time. But eventually, they expect us to seek closure, put the past behind us; move on with our lives. And, if we don't follow their advice, they may soon tire of our tears. They may distance themselves from us when we don't conform to their concept of mourning.

But, in truth, there is no right or wrong way to cope with the feelings of sorrow we experience after the loss of a loved one.

Each of us is different and the circumstances surrounding our loss differ.

Was the death sudden and unexpected? Was it lingering and foreseen? Was our loved one young or old? And how did he or she die? What was our relationship like? Did we have a chance to say good-bye?

All those factors and more can affect how long we grieve. There is no time line for mourning.

Try as we might to let the tears roll down our backs, the calendar has a way of reminding us of our loss. There are all those holidays, anniversaries and birthdays. There are the Golden Oldies playing on the radio, songs we used to dance to; there are all those re-runs of movie classics that we enjoyed together; and, the unexpected whiff of a familiar perfume or cologne as a complete stranger passes by.

Grief is a journey with many switchbacks, roundabouts and steep curves.

At times like this, our memories become our most treasured faculties for as the Irish like to say:

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; but love leaves a memory no one can steal."

With our memories, we can cling with aching hearts to our loved ones.

The effort can be emotionally draining and physically taxing, if we focus on their death; but, by focusing on their lives, we can find comfort in mourning - just as the Lord promised to us.

We can call to mind cherished memories of times when our loved ones were at their very best; days when their spirits burned as bright as the flame on the sanctuary candle; moments when we exulted in their presence and our spirits soared with theirs.

The loved ones who have gone before us have left behind a spiritual legacy. It's written on our hearts; just waiting to be read. Our desire to pray for them is evidence of that spiritual legacy. Their spirit leads us in prayer.

Let us pray that the spirits of our loved ones might live on - in us and through us - as we prepare for the day when we, too, will leave our own spiritual legacy.

Erasing Joint Pain: Energy Clearing

Wouldn't it be nice if you could take an eraser and rub out your pain?

Like a pencil mark on a paper, pain is very noticeable. But once you erase that mark, you can forget about it completely. It no longer grabs your attention. And when a pain goes away, we easily forget it was ever there.

But how can you erase a pain?

One way, which is probably the most popular one, is to mask the pain with drugs. But that does not really solve the problem.

Another, which is our subject here, is to remove the cause of the pain and then the pain must vanish.

The Cause of Joint Pain

In order to remove the cause of the pain, you must know the cause of the pain. And this is where it gets interesting!

You may think of the cause of your joint pain as an athletic injury or the repeated stress and microtrauma of sitting at a computer or standing for long hours. You may say you cannot undo the injury and you cannot go back and undo all your years of typing or working on your job. And you can't even stop now or you would lose your job. So how can you remove the cause of the pain?

The Hidden Cause

While you may not be able to stop or reverse the mechanical cause of your pain, there is another approach that can help. There is another cause of pain which usually goes undetected and unaddressed. It is a more subtle cause and so it requires a more subtle technique. But the results are often as dramatic as taking a painkiller.

This hidden cause of much of your pain is conflicted energy. Like static on a radio or a virus on a computer, energy conflict within a system causes that system to fail. It simply cannot function properly. But once you tune in that radio station or clean up those computer files, everything can go back to optimal functioning.

A Viable Alternative

There are many energy workers using a variety of techniques that can help you with your joint pain. They can open the way for true healing in your joints. Find someone who inspires confidence. You will probably do best when you work with someone with whom you resonate well. Once the dynamic life force flows through you in an unconflicted way, you may very well notice an instant diminishment of your pain. In time it can completely disappear. For some, this process is very fast. For others it can take an extended period of time.

Erasing the Pain

The joints of the body create the most exquisite movements of human expression. But when they hurt they can cause some of the most excruciating moments in your life.

When you seek out an energy worker to help you with your joints, you are not masking the pain. You are erasing the pain by correcting the cause. And when you're dancing again, you probably won't even remember the pain at all.

How to Get Healthy

Are there many steps to follow on how to get healthy? Being healthy is not about some steps you need to follow. It is not about living on some diet plan and making sure that you follow it religiously every single time of the day. It is about eating the right foods in the right amounts, changing your habits to better fit your lifestyle, doing activities that will keep you physically fit and making sure that all of these have a positive impact on your health.

However, getting and staying healthy is also more than just about the things you do and the food you eat. Sometimes, it is also about making the right decisions, having the right mindset and yearning for the right results. It is more than just wanting to be skinny so you can fit in your jeans. If you want to learn how to get healthy, here are some things that you might want to do first:

1. Stop comparing yourself to anyone else. Weight issues are what pushes many people to start being healthy. Some women want to be skinny as this is what society has made them think is beautiful. Beauty is what you think and see it is. No one can force a standard to you. If you believe in yourself and are not after the aesthetic benefits of being healthy, it would still give you more than enough physical, mental and emotional benefits to keep you going for life.

2. Don't be too serious about it. Things go wrong when people start punishing themselves for eating a bit too much when they are on a diet. They then binge and get worse than where they started. If you ate more than what you're supposed to, let yourself think and reflect, and then promise that you wouldn't do it for as long as you could. You're wrong if you think it does you good when you eat less than what you're supposed to. You're even more wrong if you think you're less of a person because you can't discipline yourself to eat right.

3. Think balance. Balance is always good. If you are planning to make yourself full with a lunch dessert, you need to make sure that it is the only sweet treat you'll have for that day. If you are eating a salty dinner, make sure that none of your other meals or snacks is. Carbohydrates, proteins and fats are essential. Instead of counting every calorie you take in, just make sure that you have enough and not too much energy for your daily activities.

There are many easy ways on how to get healthy. However, none of them would be effective if you do not have the time, effort and determination to make "healthy" happen. It helps if you visit your doctor or nutritionist every once in a while, but being healthy would be always more than just about the foods that you eat and the exercises that you do.

Getting a Healthy Living Make-Over

We all want to be forever young, not necessarily in our actions, but in our physical bodies and our mindset. Hopefully, we don't carry the live forever young philosophy too far and act like children when we're adults. However, having faith as a child and believing that life is good and can be good, even when it sometimes seems bad-is the ticket towards getting a healthy living make-over.

To be in total body health, we need to take care of our three parts. We are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in body. We need to always remember that if one of those parts is not in total health, it will bring the other two parts down as well. Getting a healthy living make-over, begins with getting the right positive mental and spiritual outlook in our lives. Some people look to faith in God as the answer. You need to find your own meaning and purpose to life. Once those two parts of your body are in order, then you need to take a look at the physical side.

We should begin the healthy living make-over by taking our own personal inventory or health assessment. If we're feeling sleep deprived, that could very well be because of stress. The lives we live today are so filled with multiple stressors and we don't know how to organize our daily routines without driving ourselves crazy. On top of that, we need to add daily exercise, at least three times a week, to our schedules. Exercising helps release the endorphins and serotonin which create a sense of overall well-being in our bodies. True, a good workout can create sore muscles, but that's good because you're working your body the right way. However, there's something nice about the satisfaction you get after a good workout.

Ridding our bodies of harmful toxins is a must for a healthy living make-over. Toxins negatively affect our thyroid and can shut down our metabolism. For a natural detox, drinking a cup of hot or cold green tea works really well as a natural detox. Some green tea does have caffeine so drinking it after the evening hours can hinder sleep. We should always pay attention to the labels on our foods.

We should take omega 3 supplements-they stabilize our moods and have few negative side effects. Taking probiotics is also important. They are natural bacteria that help our bodies maintain natural balance of organisms in the intestines. They increase our metabolism and balance our digestive system. Fiber is essential to a healthy diet. Many of us do not get the right amount of fiber in our daily diets. That's why if you don't, then taking a fiber drink or supplements is a good idea. Fiber is essential in lowering bad cholesterol, regulating blood sugar and lowering the risk of heart disease.

Staying hydrating is so vital to healthy living. Water keeps every part of our body working properly each day. It assists in flushing out waste and keeping our body at the right temperature. We lose water every day when we sweat, urinate, breath and have bowel movements. You can survive longer without food, but not that long without water. It's essential to drink enough every day, especially as we exercise and in the hot weather.

Eating a healthy diet is important, but it's also been studied that eating smaller meals, two to four, every day can help stimulate our metabolism and improve our health and body composition. Some people have a very good metabolism and they digest their food and this happens consistently and quickly every time they eat. However, not everyone has this great metabolism. So, if you do eat small meals, it will aid your body in properly digesting your food.

It's easier to let our bodies go and not take care of all our three parts. The harder factor is to live each day with the mindset that a healthy living make-over is obtainable. However, when we live with the mindset that we are taking care of our bodies, this prevention will be the best medicine because we'll be less susceptible to sickness and disease. Prevention is always the best medicine.
